Be in His Purpose Podcast | Helping Women Conquer Their Fear Through Faith

How to Break Free From Fear and Step Into Boldness

Yvonne Paschal Season 1 Episode 7

Fear can be a stealthy thief, silently robbing us of our God-given purpose. Imagine living a life where fear is not the boss, but a mere signal pointing to your next breakthrough. In our latest episode, we unravel how fear deceives us, amplifying 'what-ifs' and shrinking the promises of God meant to empower us. I share personal stories, including my own struggles with fear around my passion for singing, as we explore how it can prevent us from offering our true gifts to the world. Together, we confront the lies of fear and embrace the power, love, and sound mind that God has equipped us with to overcome it.

This journey doesn't end with recognizing fear; it beckons us to step into spiritual authority with boldness. By rejecting fear through spiritual affirmations and reminding ourselves that fear isn't from God, we create a shift in mindset. With practical steps, including identifying fear, replacing lies with biblical truths, and taking small steps of faith, I guide you towards living courageously. Inspired by the story of Moses, we remind ourselves that even in moments of inadequacy, God provides all we need for our calling. This episode is a heartfelt invitation to trust in God, move forward despite fear, and live purposefully. Engage with me through your comments and subscribe for more encouragement on this path of faith and boldness.

So grab your journal, your coffee I've got my coffee right here or maybe both, and let's dive in. All right.

Speaker 1:

So let's start first by understanding what fear is. We've got to define it. Fear at its core, you know, is that natural response to the unknown or perceived danger. Right, it's the thing we don't know, or the perceived thing that keeps us from something. Okay, fear often lies to us, though. Let's just, let's just say that, you know. The kicker is that fear will lie to us. We know that. It tells us that failure is final. It tells us that stepping out will lead to rejection or disappointment. Right, we get to that place where I'm so afraid of what people will think, I'm so afraid of what they're going to say, the rejection that may come with that, if they don't like it, if they no longer talk to me, the fear of their reaction.

Speaker 1:

It can keep us in fear. It can keep us in fear, but have you noticed how fear magnifies the what-ifs? It magnifies the what-ifs and then it shrinks the promises of God, god's promises, what he said in his word begins to get smaller and smaller and fade away, tucked away somewhere, and we forget about it. And then we're magnifying the very thing, the what if we're magnifying that, glorifying that, idolizing that, and then it becomes, then we're stuck right and then we're, we are captive and we are in bondage to the thing that we have magnified. So the enemy uses fear. He uses this to paralyze us Because he knows boldness is the key to unlocking our destiny and our calling, key to unlocking our destiny and our calling. He knows that if he keeps us stuck and paralyzed, standing still, not taking a step, not moving forward, dwelling on and magnifying the what-ifs and the fears, putting God's word and his promises out of our understanding and our reach and our grasp, and you know we're putting that to the side. And far from us that he's got us in control, he's got us under control, he's got us in bondage. So the enemy uses that. The enemy uses that 2 Timothy 1.7 says For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Fear isn't from God, fear isn't from God, but the power, love and a sound mind to overcome fear that is God's gift to us. So then, what's really stopping you and me? See, I remember a time when fear had its claws, it had its grip in me. Um, I've put this out before. Um, I had, I do, I still do.

Speaker 1:

I have a love for music, I have a love for singing, I love to sing. I've always loved this, since I can remember, as a child, and I remember growing up and I would sing, but I would sing, you know, I would close my door to my room, I would sing in my room To myself, by myself, in front of a mirror or in the shower, and then there would be times where I would. I realized that if I could go in the garage, it really had a great echo, so I would go in the garage again. Garage door closed, I'm closed off, there's nobody there. I am removing others from hearing, or even, you know, getting the opportunity to hear me or, you know, be my audience.

Speaker 1:

And it was just me and it really. I did that for so long. That really it was. It was just my singing and my love for it was really just for me, because I wouldn't let anybody else, you know, I wouldn't sing in front of anybody else. I had this fear. Then, you know, later I got a karaoke machine and then, you know, sometimes when my, my friend would sleep over her and I would would use the karaoke machine and we would sing and like that was fun, you know where. You know, now I could include her because she would relate and we were good friends and and we would have fun with it, and so her and I would both open up to the fact that you know, okay, we're going to sing in front of one another, so that was cool.

Speaker 1:

But like I couldn't do that in front of other people, I was really so afraid of their reaction, what they would say, what they would think, fear of rejection. I didn't want people to tell me, you know, what they thought of it If they didn't like it. I was afraid of even knowing that. You know, if I was good, I thought I was good, right, so I didn't want people to tell me that I wasn't good. So I had that fear of rejection. I had fear of what of, of what they would think. So I wouldn't even put myself out there and kept it to myself and secluded myself, closed myself off um to this gift, to this desire that god gave me, and I did that for so long.

Speaker 1:

There were times where I would sing, I, I did, I did, uh, come out of my shell and I sang in front of my parents, I think like a couple times, and I sang in front of my parents, I think like a couple of times, and then, you know, but that was after that, you know, it would go right back to just keeping it to myself, maybe in front of my kids, because you know they'd hear mom sing and their kids. So you know, we all, we would all sing together, though. So that's how I lived my life for a long time, and but I was so stuck in the fear, I was so stuck and, uh it, it really had its grip on me. But here's what shifted for me, and because God took me through a journey of this and I stopped focusing on myself and my fears and I started focusing on God's promises. Right, what he has told us in his word, what scripture tells us? Joshua 1.9 tells us be strong and courageous, do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord, your God, will be with you wherever you go, for the Lord, your God, will be with you wherever you go. So the scriptures, you know. I started to reflect on them. I started to really have them as an anchor. We have to have the scriptures become our anchor.

Speaker 1:

Just within this past year and a half, I really started to learn and activate and use my spiritual authority. I really started to learn and activate and use my spiritual authority. That's something else that has really helped me. In times when fear starts to creep in again Is right. When I start feeling fear, in whatever the area is, wherever you know, the enemy starts to pull me back into where I was and I can, I can. I know immediately, right, if we can remember that fear isn't from God, if we can remember that, what scripture tells us about do not be afraid, do not be discouraged.

Speaker 1:

God has not given us a spirit of fear. Go to that, recall it, say it. If I have to say it out loud and then know that this is not from God, it is of the enemy and he's trying to entrap me again, so I can then right, think of that and then immediately reject it. I reject this, I rebuke it, I rebuke the spirit of fear. It is not for my father, it is not for my heavenly father, it is not of God. He did not give me this. So I rebuke it now in Jesus' name. It is. I command it to leave. In Jesus' name and using my spiritual authority, using our voice and our spiritual authority in Jesus' name, to rebuke it, reject it and command it to leave. And it begins to lose its power on you, it begins to fade its power on you. It begins to fade, it really does, and so that's just.

Speaker 1:

Something I've started to do just within the last year and a half is using my spiritual authority, but so that's just. You know something that I am not where I used to be when it comes to fear. So now, when it comes to singing, um, I do, I, I am more comfortable singing in front of other people. Um, I did it for a while with my church, where I actually got on stage and sang in front of, in front of others and, um, they're just, they're, they're. There was so much that shifted in me, and it was through the grace of God and the spirit of God that has shifted when it comes to that.

Speaker 1:

And also I now know that you know our gifts and desires and things that he has given us are not just for us. It's bigger than that. It is for someone else. So who am I, who are, who are we to keep that enclosed behind closed doors? Who are that? Is that right? Who? Who are we to do that Right? So this, this is for somebody else. Our gifts and our desires are not for us.

Speaker 1:

So when we can just shift our mindset and our desires are not for us, so when we can just shift our mindset and our thinking from lies to truth, the enemy can no longer use this against us. He can no longer trap us into this anymore, because we now know what to do when it comes. We now know how to combat when it comes. We now know how to combat when it comes. We're ready for the, for whatever comes our way, we are on guard. We are ready for battle, and that's exactly what we need to do.

Speaker 1:

So let's talk about or let me let me back up for a second. So let me ask you. Or let me let me back up for a second. So let me ask you what is? You know what bold step? Has fear been holding you back from think about it? What has been holding you captive is it? Is it a job change? You know that God is calling you outside of where you've been working and the job that you've been working. Is it sharing your testimony? Is it putting it out there in front of people? Is it sharing God's word with somebody? Is it inviting that person to church? Is it starting that ministry or that business writing that book ministry or that business writing that book?

Speaker 1:

You know something that we can if we're not careful, we can allow fear to be louder than God's promises. Right, fear may roar, but God's promises roar louder. God is so much bigger than all of that. Then the enemy makes us think that it is, when in reality, spiritually, it isn't. So let's get practical now. Breaking free from fear. Let me mute or put my phone on silent here.

Speaker 1:

Um, breaking free from fear isn't just a moment, it's a process. It is a process like it took years for me to for god to take me through a process. Like it took years for me to for God to take me through a process of overcoming my own fears. Um, there were some things I had to go through, there were some trials I had to face, there was some testing. All of it was for the purpose of walking me through overcoming one step at a time, one process at a time. So it is a process.

Speaker 1:

And here's three steps to step into boldness. One we've got to identify the fear. We've got to identify it, we've got to write it down, we've got to name it, we've got to call it what it is. So is it? Is it fear of failure? Is it rejection? Whatever it is for you, once you identify it, it begins to lose its power over you. So, number one, identify the fear. Number two replace the lie with truth. Take every fearful thought captive. Right, we've got to take our thoughts captive, bible tells us, and make it obedient to Christ. So, for example, if fear says you're not good enough, we can replace it with truth. Philippians 4.13 says I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. So, number two, again, replace the lie with truth. And then, number three, take a small step of faith.

Speaker 1:

See, boldness isn't the absence of fear. I think that we can still have the uncertainty, those thoughts of fear, those things are still going to come and we're still going to feel some of those tendencies. But boldness isn't the absence of fear, it's action in the face of fear. So you know what we can do. We can pray, and we need to be doing this, asking God for the strength, asking him to help you during those times, right? Something that I like to pray every morning is Lord, give me boldness, give me the courage, take away any fear or timidity from me. It is not of you. Take it from me, speak through me, work through me right, fill me with your Holy Spirit and may it overflow in me. Use me today, god, but I need your strength, I need you. Bless of me. Strip that off of me. I don't want it. I want more of you. All right, we can pray that and take one small step toward what you're called to do. One small step. Once you've done that right, when you know that the Lord is calling you to take the next step, take the next step. Okay, so it is a process.

Speaker 1:

When Peter stepped out of the boat to walk on water, you know, fear may have, fear was present, but so so was Jesus. Jesus was with him. Jesus is always right with us. He's always there. So when fear becomes surf or when it surfaces, remind, we need to be reminded that the lord is with us. You know, as long as peter kept his eyes on christ, right, he was able to walk on water and he, he walked on what should have drowned him.

Speaker 1:

But see, boldness isn't about us, it isn't about you. It's about trusting the one who calls you. It's about trusting the one who calls us. We have a bold god, we have a bold creator and we have a bold creator and he lives on the inside of us. He lives on the inside of us so we can trust that. If he called you to it, you have everything you need to be able to walk that out in boldness. You have everything you need to be able to walk that out in boldness.

Speaker 1:

So I want to leave you with this thought that fear may show up, but it doesn't have to stay, it doesn't have to remain, it doesn't have to have a hold on us, and that's not what God wants, right? He doesn't want us to be captive to the thing that he didn't give us. So God has equipped you and me with everything you need to walk boldly in your purpose. But the question is is will you trust him? Will you take that step of faith? Will you remember? Courage isn't the absence of fear, it's moving forward despite it.

Speaker 1:

So, even when we sometimes feel that uncertainty or the of the unknown, um you know when, when God's called us to the thing, and then now we take a step, um, and we're feeling like, oh my goodness, like what am I doing? What, like Lord? Where are you? Where are you taking me? You know, and you know you could, you could talk like Moses and say, Lord, I, you know, I'm not a good speaker, like I don't have the words, I don't have a good voice, like I can't do that thing. And then the Lord comes back with right, what have I called you to do? I've given you everything you need. Trust me, right, we can trust the God of all creation to give us what we need to get through and do the thing he's called us to do. Lean on that. We can lean on that. So will you trust him? Will you take that step of faith? Will you remember that you have everything you need and that he is right there with you?
