Spiritual Gifts & Our Calling – Doing What We're Called To Do

Yvonne Paschal Season 2 Episode 19

Ever felt unqualified for what God's calling you to do? You're not alone. The truth is, God never calls the qualified—He qualifies the called. This foundational principle unlocks understanding about our divine purpose and the spiritual gifts we've been given.

In this soul-stirring episode, we explore how spiritual gifts function like fire—they must be fanned into flame, nurtured, and consistently used, or they become dormant. While Romans 11:29 reminds us that "the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable," many believers let their God-given abilities lie inactive through fear, comparison, or simple neglect.

The reality is both sobering and exhilarating: you possess unique spiritual gifts that no one else can offer in quite the same way. These gifts aren't primarily for your benefit but were designed to serve others and glorify God. When you step into your calling, you'll quickly discover it requires supernatural empowerment—it's meant to be something impossible through human effort alone, ensuring God receives all glory. And someone is waiting on the other side of your obedience.

With Christ's return drawing nearer, there's an urgency to this message. We'll all give account for how we stewarded what God entrusted to us. Are you using your gifts? Are you walking worthy of your calling? Have you surrendered to God's purpose despite fear of what others might think? These questions deserve honest reflection.

Whether you're just beginning to discover your spiritual gifts or seeking to revitalize dormant ones, this episode provides practical guidance for identifying and stepping into your divine calling. Speaker 1:

Hey friends, welcome to the Be In His Purpose podcast. I'm so glad that you're here with me. Today we're going to be diving into a powerful topic and this is something that I shared this morning on Abiding in the Word Bible Study. It's on my TikTok channel, which is at Be In His Purpose. You can check that out. Come on live every Monday morning at 10 am Eastern time. So tune in and subscribe to that channel if you haven't, as well as to the podcast here so you can be up to date on any new and upcoming releases.

Speaker 1:

But we talked about this today, about spiritual gifts and our calling. So this is all about helping us understand not only what we are called to, what God has called us to, but that God has uniquely gifted you and I to walk in that calling. All right. So I want us to discuss this today and because so often you know there are, I believe that there are many that you know are not walking in the thing that God actually has for them. They're walking in something that is comfortable, it, you know, it's something that, yes, fits their lifestyle, but it's actually it's not the place, it's not the thing that God has actually purposed and planned for their life, or maybe they're not using the gifts that he has given them. So I want us, as the body of Christ, we, you know, we all need to grow in this area. We all need to learn and assess for ourselves and seek these things out, because too often we disqualify ourselves. We do, we are our worst critic. We can disqualify ourselves from the calling that God has placed on our lives, the very words that God spoke over us. A lot of times we can get into that and disqualifying ourselves and saying we don't have what it takes or I'm not good enough or I can't do that. But we're saying things like that. We're saying things like I'm not gifted enough or I don't have what it takes. But here is the truth, right. We need to know the truth. The truth is that God never calls the qualified. He qualifies the called. Right. I know you've heard this. He never calls those that are qualified for a thing we need to get. That. He's not going to call you to something that you're qualified to do. It's going to be the opposite. He qualifies the called Okay, meaning the thing that he has for you, the thing that he has purposed, predestined for you in the natural, is going to feel, is going to feel like, uh, how? Uh, I'm not, like, you're not going to have the qualifications in the natural, okay, you're not gonna have the, the, the, everything that you're you need in the natural, okay, he.

Speaker 1:

A lot of times when we step into the call it's usually most of the time I mean I've seen this is that it's always something, um, that we can't do in and of ourselves. It's always like impossible because it's God, you know, it's God who equips us to actually do the thing. In reality, it's by supernatural Holy Spirit led how we do it, because if without God, there's no way we could do it. It's that kind of thing. So he qualifies the called. He will give you what you need and will guide you step by step to do the thing he's called you to do. It's always going to be if I don't have you, god, there's no way I could do this. That will be what stepping into your calling will feel like and will look like. There's no other answer except God that I did this right.

Speaker 1:

So, if you're in Christ, and even those that are not right, god gives each and every one of us gifts. We all have gifts. Okay, we have been given gifts since we have been created. God gives gifts and the Bible tells us that those gifts are irrevocable. We'll talk about that a little later. But God has placed those gifts in you from the beginning and you do have a purpose and a call on your life. The Bible tells us that you can walk it out, but it begins with understanding what God has already put inside of you.

Speaker 1:

All right, so I want us to walk through a few scriptures that talk about this, and one of the first scriptures is 2 Timothy 1, 6. And it says For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. See, god has placed something in you, but it has to be stirred, it has to be taken care of, it has to be nurtured. Your gift is like a fire If you don't feed it, it's not going to grow, it's. It's like right, it's. It's that. It's that visualization right Of a plant. Right, if I'm not feeding and watering the plant, eventually it's going to, it's going to wither, right, it's going to die.

Speaker 1:

Um, and in in the, in the supernatural, in the spirit, we have gifts, gifts, spiritual gifts, and a lot of times, if we're not using them, if we're not nurturing them, taking care of them, stirring them up, using them, they can become dormant. They're there because god doesn't take them away once he's given to us, uh, the gift, um, but if we're not, you you know, we're not tapping into it, we're not doing anything with it. It's not going to grow, it's just going to sit there and it's going to become dormant and it won't even be recognizable. But if you fan it into flame, as the scripture says, it will become a light that others can see, it will become visible to others. So today, I want us to ask ourselves have I been letting my gift sit dormant? Ask yourself that. Have I been letting my gift sit dormant?

Speaker 1:

All right, let's look at another scripture, and, and that's in Romans 11, 29. This is what we were just speaking about, where the Bible tells us for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. That is so encouraging that the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable, meaning God won't change his mind. Are irrevocable meaning God won't change his mind. You can't mess up so bad that God will revoke or take away your calling and your gift. That's what he's saying here. It's irrevocable. It means it can't be taken back.

Speaker 1:

Even if you took a detour, even if you feelworthy, god still has a plan, a purpose for your life. Your gifts are still valid, your calling still there, it still stands. It's still the thing he's called you to do. And remember the scripture of right what the enemy meant for evil, god will turn it for good, he will use it for good. He will turn that thing that the enemy meant to destroy us and turn it into something good and get us back on the path right of, ultimately, where he's predestined and pre-planned for us. Okay, so we can trust that God. Can you know, even if we we take a detour, he can get us back on the path like. The path isn't gone, um, you know it's still there. It's still what he said he would do. And the word of god is um, doesn't return, void his promises we can hold on to. They will come to pass. So if he said it, if he spoke it, you know we can believe it. It's truth.

Speaker 1:

All right, let's look at another scripture, first Corinthians 12, four through seven, and it says there are different kinds of gifts, but the same spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone, it is the same God at work. All right, this is, you know, when we talk about comparison and I know a lot of times we can do this throughout our life and you know there's there's not room for it, though, in the kingdom, like we have to get away from comparing what we have compared to someone else. There's no room for it in the kingdom.

Speaker 1:

Okay, whatever God gave you is of value and of importance and there's a need for it, and we have to stay focused on what that is for ourselves. What God has called me to do, what God has called you to do, is going to be different. All right, you have something I don't Same other way. Like, let's keep our eyes fixed on what God has called us to do and not on what someone else is doing, because your gift is needed and you know your gift, and you know, means that we really just need to stay in our lane. We need to stay in the thing that God has called us to, because you know what, at the end of the day, that thing, that gift, that calling is powerful, there's power in it, there's anointing in it, god's grace, god's hand is on it. There is power when we step into it and begin to do the thing he's called us to do.

Speaker 1:

In 1 Peter 4, 10, it says each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. So our gifts, they're not for us, they are for other people, they are for us to serve others, they are for us to glorify God. They are a gift. God has given us a gift, okay, and we now need to use them for serving others, and it's something that we're meant to steward it. I mean really everything that God has given us. We're meant to steward it and take care of it, and it's a grace that's meant to be stewarded with our spiritual gifts same thing. So how are we taking care of the thing that God has given us?

Speaker 1:

We all have to ask ourselves this and at the end of the day also, right, like when we come to that place, when we are this earth has passed away and we are now in eternity. Well, we the Bible tells us, everyone will be judged. We will be judged at the end of the day, and what is God judging us on right. God is going to judge us on how we stewarded the things that he gave us. He's going to ask us how did we steward the gifts he gave us? Did we use them? Did we? Did we obey the scriptures, did we? There is someone waiting on the other side of your obedience.

Speaker 1:

Let's get this in our mind and in our heart and our spirit today, that there's going to come a day, and you know what Jesus is coming soon. We see this, it's everywhere. The biblical prophecy is coming to pass. It has been for a long time, but we're starting to see more and more of these things come to pass, especially right now, and all the more that he is coming soon. Time is running out. Tomorrow is not promised. If all we had was today, what are we doing? What are we doing? We will have to answer to God when this is all done, when our life is over. We have to answer to God for what we did. So I want us to hold on to that and with a sense of urgency, friend, like we have got to get a hold of this and know what we are called to do, step into it, use the gifts that he's given us, steward, take care of the things he's already given us. Let us walk this out, let us have a sense of urgency.

Speaker 1:

And the next scripture is Ephesians 4.1. It says I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Okay, you've already received the calling. You have a call on your life. The invitation is to live worthy of it and step into it is to live worthy of it and step into it. Okay, god is not looking for perfection. He knows we are not perfect. He knows we're going to mess up. He already knows the end from the beginning. He knows every single thing we will do. He's not looking for perfect. Are we surrendering? Are we being obedient? Are we walking out in faith?

Speaker 1:

Did we say yes to God even when, even if, even when it is hard, even if that person doesn't like me or doesn't talk to me anymore, even if that person leaves my life because I said yes to God, even if people on social media, you know, are unkind and say mean things? Are we going to say yes to God or are we going to be afraid of what others think or say Really, that's what we have to get a hold of. Think or say Really, that's what we have to get a hold of. Can we say yes to God and let go of everything else? We have to get to that place. We have to get over and get past the fear of man. I know this is a process, it doesn't happen overnight, but I want you to know if you struggle in this area, if fear is hindering you, pray into that, ask him to restore, ask him to revive, ask him to bring a healthy fear of him and not of what others think or say, not fear of man.

Speaker 1:

So today I want you to reflect. There's three questions here. I want us to reflect on what spiritual gift did God place in you? Right, think about that. If you don't know what spiritual gifts God has put in you, seek this out, be in prayer. There are online assessments you can take for free that help you to identify what spiritual gifts he has placed in you in this, in this season. Sometimes he will change those gifts and give you new ones throughout your walk, throughout your life.

Speaker 1:

So what do you have now that you can begin identifying and using to serve and bring him glory? Number two are you using it to serve others? Okay, we need to get very clear with ourselves and are we using the gifts he's given us to serve others? Because, remember, they're not for us, they are for others. There is somebody on the other side who needs your obedience. God has called you. He's invited you and called you into his plan, invited you and called you into his plan. Are we going to say, yes, lord, I will do that. I will follow you, I will do the thing that you've called me to do, that you've given to me as a gift. I will use it because I want to give you glory and honor and I want to help someone else. Whoever it's going to help, I want to help. I want to serve them.

Speaker 1:

Okay, number three have you been walking worthy of the calling you've received? Have we been walking worthy of the calling? So you have been called. There's no like. That is scriptural, that is in the Bible. You have a calling on your life.

Speaker 1:

If you don't know what your calling is, that is again, you need to seek this out. Be in prayer. Okay, there are many. I mean there's many things. There's lots of books that you can read on this. There's many places where you can learn and grow in this area Getting in the word, absolutely Getting in the word, meditating on the word, being in prayer and asking the Holy Spirit to guide you. All right, be in his purpose, which is this podcast, is a business and ministry specifically on helping Christians identify what God has called them to. Where is the Lord leading you? All right, there are many places you can go to to get, have people come alongside you through this and to help you, you know, identify it and then to help you walk into it.

Speaker 1:

So ask yourself those those questions and watch with the how the Lord leads and guides you. Watch what he does in your life and how he works, leads and guides you. Watch what he does in your life and how he works in and through you, because the thing that he's called you to do, you will not be able to do in your own strength. It literally is a supernatural Holy Spirit that does it in and through you. It is the hand of God, it is the breath of God on your life, it's the anointing and it's a grace and it's not something you can do in your flesh on your own. You will need God every step of the way and that is when you know, when it is impossible, like, okay, that God's in that, because you know what? It's not possible, it's actually impossible, and that's the whole point. It's the, it's the spirit of God, it's the, it's the anointing, it's God himself that works it out in us.

Speaker 1:

So will you say yes to seek it out and begin to walk in it? And if you want to dive deeper, all right. I don't want you to miss.
